Bogen belyser, hvorledes nye idéer om politisk styring og selvorganisering bliver til i spændingsfeltet mellem det lokale og det globale. Informations- og kommunikationsteknologierne (IKT) er med til at udviske dette skel og dermed sætte nye betingelser for politisk deltagelse. I bogens kapitler rapporteres bl.a. undersøgelser af de danske erfaringer med brug af IKT i en række lokalområder - Nørrebro Park kvarter, Hals, Søllerød og Odder kommuner.

Politics is increasingly carried on via the media; politics increasingly concerns cultural issues of meaning and identity. The present volume explores the ongoing mediatization and culturalization of politics in the West with reference to one of the most recent and currently central media forms - the World Wide Web. The articles cover the history and current status of the web, and analyze a variety of websites - from traditional political institutions and business corporations to personal homepages.
